17. Summary and Next Steps

A defensible K–12 chemical inventory program rests on a consistent set of habits: an accurate, continuously updated inventory; storage organized by chemical compatibility rather than convenience; a current Chemical Hygiene Plan that matches how the site actually operates; complete SDS access; disciplined purchasing controls; and a disposal process that treats unwanted chemicals as a routine budget item rather than a crisis to defer.

None of this needs to be rebuilt from scratch every year once the system is in place. The goal is a program that survives staff turnover, curriculum changes, and the slow accumulation that happens naturally in any active science department.
