8. Safety Data Sheet (SDS) Management
Every hazardous chemical in your inventory needs a current, accessible SDS. In practice, SDS management fails predictably:
Binders kept in a location that isn’t accessible during an actual emergency
SDS not updated when a chemical’s manufacturer or formulation changes
Digital-only systems that aren’t accessible during an internet or power outage
No one assigned ownership of keeping the library current
✅ Best Practice: Maintain SDS access in two forms — a searchable digital system for daily reference, and a physical or offline backup for emergencies. Cross-check the SDS library against your inventory at least twice a year.
